Baca artikel CTS

KUALA LUMPUR, 11 July 2017 - Uber, a smartphone app that connects riders with drivers, and Gabungan Persatuan dan Syarikat-Syarikat Teksi Semenanjung Malaysia, an Association of all taxi associations and taxi companies in Peninsular Malaysia, today signed an MOU to kick-off “UberTaxi,” a pilot programme to allow Gabungan’s best drivers to drive on the Uber network using their taxi vehicles.
Explaining the move, Warren Tseng, General Manager for Uber in Malaysia and Singapore said, “Uber believes this partnership will provide a tangible demonstration of how giving more people the power of choice at the touch of a button makes things better for all - driver-partners, riders, and the city. We support the Government’s intention to improve the overall public transportation landscape and will do our part to ensure a quality experience for all riders and driver-partners. Since launching three years ago, Uber has continually worked to empower give Malaysian riders, driver-partners and cities the power of choice at the touch of a button.”
Commenting on the pilot programme, Yg. Bhg. Dato Hj SM Shalahuddin SM Amin, Gabungan President, said, “By exploring this collaboration with Uber, we expect our taxi drivers to benefit from enjoying the power of Uber’s technology to efficiently match them to rides. This way, they can potentially earn more money by spending more time earning ride fares, instead of spending time idling and waiting for rides. We certainly want to take on the challenge of improving ourselves even more to benefit from technology that increased flexibility and exposure to more economic opportunities.”
As part of the UberTaxi programme, approximately 500 of Gabungan’s best drivers and their taxi vehicles will be onboarded onto the Uber platform. However, this is subject to Gabungan’s drivers meeting Uber driver-partner and vehicle requirements, such as having a valid driver’s license and passes our background check including relevant insurance information, as well as making the sure that the vehicle is no more than 5 years old. The pilot is open to all types of taxi vehicles, including sedans and MPVs, and fare pricing will be based on the UberX fare structure and mechanics, and will include dynamic fares. Gabungan Taxi drivers may accept street hails when they are not online with the Uber app.
To request an UberTaxi ride, users will select a new product category option within the app called “UberTaxi”. Riders may pay for rides via cash and credit card via the Uber app. All of the other features that have contributed to great Uber experience for all - such as the mutual rating system and customer support infrastructure - remains available and in effect as part of this pilot programme.
As part of this pilot programme, participating taxi companies under Gabungan will sign up as Uber fleet partners and actively communicate, promote and market to its members the benefits of being active on the Uber app, such as the economic and entrepreneurial benefits.
Commenting on the impact to Uber’s business and service quality, Uber stated that it expects the overall impact to be broadly positive and reiterated its commitment to ensuring a quality experience for all - including both riders and current driver-partners. Warren elaborated, “Riders benefit when there are more cars on the road because it reduces waiting times and gets riders to where they need to be more quickly and efficiently. Current driver-partners will also benefit because, counterintuitively, more drivers improves network efficiency, which then decreases waiting times, and in turn, increases rider demand for ridesharing services. We have only touched a slice over the overall pie - there is still a lot more room to grow, effectively growing the pie for all.”
